National Poetry Day & Lyrical Beats

To celebrate both National Poetry Day and the launch of Lyrical Beats, there’s an hour of poetry and music at Kingston Library on Thursday 4 October.  Kingston Libraries and the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames kindly supported the production of Lyrical Beats so staff are very much looking forward to their own launch. All welcome!

Ram Jam Launch of Lyrical Beats

More than 30 poet and musicians will be perfoming at the Ram Jam Club on Thursday 27 September to launch R&M’s first anthology, Lyrical Beats: Celebrating Five Years of Rhythm & Muse.

The lyrical line-up includes poets John Weston, Maggie Sawkins, Camilla Reeve, Neringa Pangonyte, John Mackay, Peter Francis, Anne Stewart and Kavita Jindal with musicians Laurence Owen, Nomi Ruth, Sue Wheeler, Liz Simcock and The Flying Blueberries.

Rhythm & Muse celebrated its fifth anniversary this year with the launch of Lyrical Beats – a rich and diverse anthology including established poets and musicians plus many new and emerging voices, some published for the first time.

The first launch was at the Ram Jam Club on 27 September and featured more than 30 poets and musicians (see Gallery):

Maggie Sawkins, Jenny Messer, John Mackay, Fay Avsec, Laura Bottomley, Peter Francis, Armando Halpern, Susan Utting, Chris Hardy, Kavita Jindal, Nomi Ruth, Camilla Reeve, Alice Thurling, Anne Stewart, John Weston and Jane Sherwin in the first half – yes, all that talent in one hour!

After the break, the 60-strong audence enjoyed readings and performances from:

Judith Watts, Martin Goss, Jeewan Ramlugun, Julia Fletcher, John Grant, Laurence Owen, Alison Hill, Neringa Pangonyte, Julian Way, Anna Kornilova, Lauren Walters and, to round-off a brilliant evening, three songs from The Flying Blueberries.
